Hello,
I have moved my blog. You can find it here from now on. http://marystarke.weebly.com/blog.html
Plate Spinning
Now that I have updated my website, I think I should probably update my artist statement. I wrote my statement two years ago, when I was putting my Senior show together. My work has shifted in different ways since then. Writing an artist statement always makes me think of the place my work has in my life, and where I see my life going. I shouldn't have to say that those thoughts, spin off into infinite possibilities and anxieties that make writing really hard. Writing something like an artist statement is so clinical and personal at the same time. Anyway it's a hard thing to write, but I need to update it soon.
I've got all this art stuff and life stuff I need to do. All of these things are kind of spinning in my head, and I want to do it all, but I know that I can't get it all done at once. I have got to budget my time and slow down and all of that boring stuff.
At the end of the day, I would like to keep all my plates spinning like this lovely Asian plate spinner. Hopefully the plates I decide to spin won't break.
News of the best kind
Ok, it has taken me awhile to update lately. Life kind of got in the way. I was finally able to finish a large embroidery piece that I have been working on for months. YAYAYAYYAYAY! It always feels good when you finish something.
In other news, I spotted the best find ever at the local thrift store this week! A Canon Rebel SLR camera for $30!!!!! It's15 years old and uses film, but I was able to take some high quality photos of the work I have done this year. I think the photographs are decent considering the home lighting I used. Here's hoping I get to take pictures of new work later this year.

So......
Now that I have told people on Facebook and twitter about this blog---I know that I have to commit to it. This is kind of daunting, especially since I have a hard time keeping up with social media on a monthly let alone weekly basis. All I can do now is try to post regularly and pray that I don't run out of things to say!
Tonight I looked at the first blog posts of some artists I follow regularly. I was really blown away when I read Joetta Maue's first set of entries. She started her blog back in 2007, and you can really see her growth as a writer and an artist on her blog. She is one of my favorite embroidery artists. In fact, her portrait series is a major source of inspiration for my current work. It was really reassuring to see the way she started her blog, and it made me feel more confident about moving forward.
If you are interested in looking at Joetta's blog or artwork you can find out more here and here.

Starting Line
Hello,
My name is Mary and I am a fiber artist. I have set up this blog to share my own embroidery and to spread the word about the many artists I am currently obsessed with. I recently graduated with my BA in studio art and thousands of dollars in student loans. Like most people I am constantly terrified and excited about the future. I hope that someone out in cyberspace is inspired by this blog.
